According to Henry Alford, the author of “How To Live: A Search for Wisdom from Old People (While They Are Still on This Earth.)” Paraphrased from the To The Best of Our Knowledge podcast called Aging: Dying Young As Late As Possible.
1. Reciprocity — Treat other people as you treat yourself…
2. Doubt — you might know plenty but there is always something new to learn, something unexpected, the unknown unknowns.
3. Non-attachment. Things don’t always play out the way you plan. Go with the flow. Man plans and God laughs.
4. Discretion — knowing when not to act when not to speak.
5. Social conscious – no man is an island. Looking out for number one is slick and savvy, but it isn’t wisdom.
I’m not so sure about #5…sounds like an endorsement of communism…but then again…I’m not wise yet and could very well be wrong.
