90’s Nostalgia – it’s da bomb!

Bill Clinton Playing Sax

It’s not too early to be nostalgic for the 90’s? Parachute pants, Pulp Fiction and Power Rangers. The young Bill Clinton playing sax and Windows 95 finally arrived two years late.

We had a frenzy over films like The Matrix, Unforgiven, Braveheart. Shawshank Redemption, and Fight Club. We went mad for music by Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dave Matthews Band.

Were we crazy?

It’s easy to make fun of the 90’s but when you think about it too long it will end up tweaking your heart. In season one of Mad Men, Don Draper pitched a new campaign for Kodak’s wheel slide projector.Strumming heart strings he said:

In Greek, nostalgia literally means ‘the pain from an old wound’. It’s a twinge in your heart far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn’t a spaceship. It’s a time machine. It goes backwards. Forwards. It takes us to a place where we ache to go again…It lets us travel the way a child travels. Round and round. And back home again. To a place where we know we were loved.
— Don Draper

The Trial of the Century

Well, Don Draper doesn’t have a lock on nostalgia. Here are some images to bring the 90’s home. It’s the decade where we started saying things like “s’up”, “s’appening” and “da bomb”. Postage was a quarter and a gallon of gas was a dollar. The Soviet Union ceased to exist, Waco fried, and there was a war in the Gulf. It was not without Terror…the homegrown type…Oklahoma Bombing and Columbine.
